The genius of Antonio Ligabue is celebrated for the first time ever in Russia. The work of one of the protagonists of twentieth-century Italian art is presented through a wide selection of famous oils and some of his best sculptures. This intense exhibition showcases the art of a visionary genius whose work evolved continuously, the passionate research which he was capable of inventing and renewing, characterized by dazzling colours but at the same time harmonious ones, arousing emotions in the viewer and representing iconographies that were both popular and refined.

23 October 2017 – 18 February 2018

The set-up of the exhibition—with more than 110 works among paintings, drawings and sculptures—has followed a chronological as well as thematic criterion as representative as possible of the Fiume large and varied production. We started from a group of “historical” drawings of the 1940s that attracted the enthusiasm of Raffaele Carrieri and Alberto Savinio, together with drawings of the 1960s on subjects such as the Fighting Bulls, the Centaurs, the Anthropotaurus, and the Nymph and Faun.

Since his earliest childhood, Carlo Baruffaldi, born in Correggioverde, province of Mantua, has shown a profound need to express himself through images. Over the years, he has been able to hone this innate talent, also thanks to the periods of his life spent in the academies. The artist builds the painting inside an inner vision, and this imagination is materialized on the canvas through visual, not photographic, memory. It is memory of an ancestral kind. Baruffaldi’s sources are not hidden, yet he has the ability to create something never seen before and highly personal, managing to execute an in-depth self-examination, capable of translating his thoughts into visible forms in the best possible way.

MUSEO DELLA FOLLIA FROM GOYA TO BACON

MUSEO DELLA FOLLIA FROM GOYA TO BACON

curated by Vittorio Sgarbi

SALÒ (BS) 11 MARCH - 19 NOVEMBER 2017

With the work of the Spanish painter Francisco Goya (1746–1828), the idea of madness became an art theme. Existential behaviour, the opposition to the world, to what was considered to be normal, almost explicitly became a call to be acknowledged. Until then, the solitary and meditative space of melancholia was considered to be the personality trait of so many artists. However, madness was a romantic reversal, it meantshouting out, rebelling; it entailed a journey into an unknown human dimension. The splendid and modern MuSa, the city museum of Salò, has recently inaugurated a new stop on the journey of the “Museo della Follia” curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. The event begins with Goya himself, and the remarkable works on display take visitors all the way to the art of the Irish painter Francis Bacon (1909–1992). The exhibition will open on 11 March and close on 19 November 2017.
